It’s a blessing for those of us who have lived far from halal food for decades, to see that this is no longer the case. Thanks to international students, especially those from the Middle East who chose Swinburne University for their study in Australia, there is a proliferation of halal options around Glenferrie Road from L’Burger, Gami, Nelayan, and a branch of Ribs n Burgers. Adding to this list is Hawthorn Grill House, a Turkish run kebab and gozleme place on the corner of Burwood and Glenferrie roads. If semester is in, this place is full of customers and they seem to have a busy trade in online food deliveries. The space that is not so big does not appear to affect the number of customers who are drawn to menu items such as the HSP (halal snack pack) which is quite affordable for students studying there. For our order the portions provided were very generous of various types of gozleme, reminding us of “martabak”.Well for those who live in the area it is a welcome addition for trying the occasional meal on Glenferrie road.

Adalah suatu keberuntungan bagi kami yang puluhan tahun tinggal jauh dari makanan-makanan halal melihat sekarang ini tidak lagi demikian. Terimakasih kepada pelajar-pelajar internasional terutama dari Timur Tengah yang memilih Swinburne sebagai kampus untuk mereka belajar – pilihan halal di sekitar Glenferrie Road termasuk L’Burger, Gami, Nelayan, dan suatu cabang Ribs n Burgers. Dan kini ada Hawthorn Grill House. Biasanya kalau kami hendak makan diluar harus naik mobil keutara yang memakan waktu lumayan lama. Apabila smester dimulai tempat ini penuh dengan pembeli dan juga pesanan makanan melalui OL delivery. Ruangan yang tidak begitu besar tidak mempengaruhi pembeli yang datang karena mereka menyediakan HSP (halal snack pack) yang harganya cukup terjangkau untuk mahasiswa yang belajar disana. Buat kami porsi yang disediakan lumayan banyak tambahan gozleme mengingatkan kami akan “ martabak “. Nah buat yang tinggal didaerah Selatan cobalah sesekali kejalan Glenferrie.
