A steady stream of customers arrives at Wee Jeanie – a cute little place on Yarraville’s cafe strip right near the station. There is a small, cosy indoors section but if you get here on one of Melbourne’s good days you’re in luck-you can enjoy the pleasant outdoor seating which seems to be a popular hangout for some young Lebanese guys. The staff when we arrived were three friendly young Aussies, who had an easygoing rapport with their diverse customers (mostly regulars perhaps). I ordered my usual coffee and my daughter opted for the fresh carrot and apple juice. The zucchini corn and haloumi fritters were just the right size but needed more haloumi. Save room for their delicious sweets including an amazing salted caramel cookie sandwich. If you’re in Melbourne’s cool inner west before
the late afternoon, you know there’s a halal cafe to sample.

Ramai pelanggannya cafe yang jaraknya dekat dengan stasiun Yarraville ini. Di dalam ada tempat duduk yang nyaman tapi ada juga ruangan belakang yang beratap tapi terbuka, kelihatannya banyak disukai anak-anak muda untuk bertemu. Yang mengoperasikan cafe ini pada saat kami datang tiga anak muda yang ramah dan pengunjung cafe pun ramah-ramah terhadap mereka, rupanya sudah menjadi pelanggan tetap. Seperti biasa aku memesan kopi dan anakku memesan carrot, apple juice dan biscuit yg mirip macaroon sedang aku memesan zukini corn & halumi fritter yg aku fikir akan “wow” ternyata biasa-biasanya saja. Juga mungkin aku salah pilih menu, atau halumi hanya enak kalau dipisahkan dan digoreng. Kalau kebetulan anda ada didaerah ini tahu kalau ada cafe
halal disitu. Selamat mencoba.
