Forgive me because I’ve been taking a break from writing for a long time during Ramadan. This Monday, I don’t know why but I felt the urge to eat in a restaurant that I have never tried before, even though I’d been in the area several times before on culinary adventures. Our choice was the favourite cuisine of my late father (Allah yarhamu) and indeed where my grandfather came from – Egypt. I don’t know why but when I eat something that my father liked I always shed tears … because I was very close to my father. I always remember his words that made me confident and grateful to Allah subhana huwa ta’ala, for making my father proud of me. Okay, about this restaurant. From the beginning we were made to feel welcome by the waiters (friendly young Asian female and Middle Eastern male staff). The capacity of the restaurant is quite large with additional tables outside which are equipped with heaters for winter. We ordered the lentil soup which my daughter and I thought was the best out of several restaurants we’ve tried. We ordered Koshari – a classic Egyptian dish suitable for vegetarians or vegans – and Kebda Eskandrany – a dish from Alexandria with tasty beef liver for those who need iron like me. The last item I chose was seafood – prawns with creamy sauce and sayadia/Egyptian rice. Everything tasted good, only one thing was that compared to other Middle Eastern restaurants the pickles provided were very little. Maybe in future we could have more pickles…standard room decor, pleasing food presentation and friendly service too. Enjoy!

Selamat mencoba!
