Da Le Pau

One day I read from an Indonesian community chat group in Melbourne that another Padang restaurant just opened up. More accurately it can be called a cafe because the operating hours are the same as other cafes in general. Camberwell is a familiar area to me because I live in the vicinity, and three of my children went to Camberwell High except the oldest who went to Mac.Rob. It’s also an area where there are a lot of cool cafes, and this new Padang place fits the vibe. From the outside, it looks modern and trendy, a little different from other Indonesian restaurants plus it’s all halal too with friendly and polite service.

This time I couldn’t wait to try the Padang satay where we can choose between beef and beef liver. This very delicious satay sauce is served with lontong or rice cake. There are also rice sets with two sides we can choose from like beef rendang, ‘pop chicken’ (a chicken in chilli dish only found in Padang Indonesian restaurants), and many more including vegetarian options. These all taste authentic. Rounding out the menu are Indonesian-style desserts, and for people like me who usually drink a coffee after eating, there is good espresso coffee.

Additionally if you crave an Indo-style breakfast it’s available at Da Le Pau. There is a shortcoming of this restaurant in that if an item runs out, a customer should be informed when they order. Maybe it can all be checked before the restaurant opens, whether an item is available or not. But this is a minor issue which won’t hold me back from returning. Hopefully Da Le Pau stays in operation for a long time.

Padang satay and a rice set with rendang and pop chicken
