YOI Indonesian Fusion

For fans of Indonesian cuisine, there’s reason to celebrate – a newly opened restaurant in Melbourne’s CBD (specifically on Franklin street) serves up modern takes on Indonesian food and drink favourites. The menu at YOI features salted egg noodles, gado-gado, dumplings, satay, balado (meat or tofu tossed in spicy chilli goodness), meatballs and more. The location of the restaurant at the very front of the building and encased in glass adds interest, causing passers-by to turn and look at the eatery. Luckily our group of six got a spacious table. I went for “balado oxtail” which was not too spicy, while my daughter ordered noodles with beef mutton and salted egg. Our friends chose siomay, savoury martabak, and curry chicken noodles. As a dessert we chose sweet martabak. Friendly service at the beginning but after that it seemed like they were rushing us even though we were waiting for a take-away order which they’d forgotten…we put it down to new restaurant jitters. Hopefully this will not happen again in the future because service and friendliness is vital in the restaurant business.
