Update: Spice Klub is reported closed for good – as foreshadowed in our review, the restaurant name and concept have changed. Currently a halal Uighur restaurant is at the address and we will review it shortly. The information below is kept for archival purposes.
Spice Klub is a very new Indonesian restaurant – it just opened two months ago – in the multicultural food haven of Footscray. But surely this is good news for Indonesian food fans who live in Melbourne’s inner west. A comprehensive menu of Indonesian classics (we tried lumpia or chicken and prawn spring rolls and perkedel or potato cakes for entrees, and sop buntut / oxtail soup and chicken satay for mains) encouraged us to return, for repeat visits to discover which items will become specialties. We’ve been told that restaurant’s name will be changed very soon, as the business took over a previous, now closed eatery which still crops up when you search for it online. Very friendly service in a space large enough to fit 30 or so people. If you live around Footscray or happen to pass this area, have a good time experiencing genuine Indonesian food locally.
