Casa Tagine

The food of Morocco is the food I like the most, because it is similar to Egyptian cuisine. My father grew up, and finished school, in Egypt so my mother was always making food from there. After the closure of a much loved halal Moroccan eatery on Sydney road (where it had to compete with the proliferation of halal restaurants there), one or two months ago Casa Tagine opened in Carlton in Melbourne. Upon hearing this I immediately went there to try it. Alhamdulillah, I came across the cuisine I longed for there. The food was delicious and suited my taste. Plus the ambience is added to with a mixture of Arabic and Spanish music that lulled me back to my childhood with my father.

This restaurant’s chef was of Arabic and Spanish heritage and he and the female server were very friendly. We chose lamb and chicken tagine meals with typically Moroccan spices. For an accompaniment I chose rice which was also cooked in a typically Moroccan style. My granddaughter who ate with us chose french fries as a side dish to her chicken. I guess Australian kids don’t really like rice. This restaurant has appetizers, but we went straight to the mains. The complimentary olive and chilli pickle starters are suitable, but the serving was a bit small for four adults. However the mains portions were generous. From a few traditional drinks to choose from I ordered freshly made fruit and vegetable juice. We were given mint tea to conclude the meal. I will definitely go back to this restaurant with my family – we haven’t tried the paella. Enjoy!

Selamat mencoba.
